Chemin des Révoires 164m
Highest point in Monaco

Monaco is the second smallest state in the world after the Vatican. The city state is completely built up and has the highest population density in the world with a foreign population of around 75%. The highest point of Monaco is at the end of the Chemin des Révoires staircase, where it reaches a gentle height of 164 metres. You can only get to the finish by bike from the back over French soil. Before that, the route partly crosses the world-famous Formula 1 circuit in Monte Carlo.

Departure: Nizza 10m
Total altitude gain: 413m
Total distance: 25km
December 2024

From Nice, the route follows the coastal road to Monaco.

The climb at the end covers a harmless 150 metres in altitude over three kilometres.

Kick-off on the Promenade des Anglais

There are excellent cycle paths around Nice. Even in December, there are many racing cyclists here.

The undulating profile always allows nice views down to the Cote d'Azur.

Some of the few tunnels on the route can be bypassed.

The route is easy. We simply follow the M6098. This leads directly to Monaco.

Right on the border with Monaco, you are greeted by the first luxury cars. And you can also see Ferrari, Maserati and Rolls Royce on the streets. All the clichés are catered for here.

Monaco is anything but cycle-friendly. The main route leads along a multi-lane road through various tunnels. You rarely have a clear view of the harbour.

It only gets a little more pleasant when you leave the main road and tackle the actual climb. And lo and behold - suddenly you are surfing round one of the most famous hairpin bends in the world: the Fairmont bend with its red and white kerbs is part of the Monte Carlo Formula 1 circuit.

We leave the Formula 1 circuit at the casino and turn left into Boulevard Princesse Charlotte.

At the L'Engelin multi-storey car park, turn left up Avenue Hector Otto

There we briefly return to French soil: Quiz: Where does Monaco end and France begin?

Von oben gelangt man dann über die D6007 an das obere Ende der Treppe Chemin des Révoires - höchster Punkt von Monaco.
