Welcome to the cutting-edge of uphill cycling
and world's most famous ascents of each of the continents
The toll road Zillertaler Höhenstraße in the Tux Alps has several high points and also several climbing options. This makes it a popular destination for racing bikes. The southernmost ramp from Hippach to the highest point at Melchboden at an altitude of just over 2,000 metres is described here. This ascent is also one of the most demanding in the Alpine region with its key data.
Start: Hippach 603m
The profile of the trail shows a continuous 10% gradient up to Melchboden.
It starts in the morning in the village of Hippach.
The view down in the morning still shows a cloud cover over the valley to Mayrhofen.
The climb is beautiful.
The route maintains a fairly constant gradient of around 10%.
Many hairpin bends on the way...
....alternating with long straights.
It goes up in further steep hairpin bends..
...to the toll station.
View down behind the toll station
Shortly before the top of the pass
The highest point of the panorama road is reached shortly after the Melchboden snack station. The quiet picture is deceptive. At Melchboden, a few metres further down, there is a large, busy car park for cars and buses.
